Mansur Ball-Bey, an 18-year-old black teen was shot and killed Wednesday by St. Louis police, following the search of a home in St. Louis, MO. Ball-Bey’s death prompted several violent protests to breakout in the Fountain Park neighborhood, an area of town where tension between the community and police has escalated in recent months. As a result of the protests, police arrested nine people and deployed tear gas into the crowd.

The shooting that claimed Ball-Bey’s life took place in a rough part of St. Louis which houses many boarded up homes, illegal drugs, guns, and is a haven for criminal activity in general. St. Louis police are claiming that they had a search warrant from the home and upon entry, two black armed black men ran from the building which prompted a chase on foot.

“Officers in the rear alley ordered them to stop and to drop the gun. As they ran, Ball-Bey turned and pointed the gun at the officers. There were two officers in the alley. Both officers fired.”

Police Chief Sam Dotson

Not long after the shooting, a crowd of protesters began to gather near the intersection of Walton and Page where a car was eventually set on fire and protesters began to take action against police.

The above video was released by the St. Louis Police Department, showing protesters throwing bricks, rocks, and water bottles at a line of officers, which prompted the cops to disperse tear gas and make arrests.

As far as the officers who shot Mansur Ball-Bey, they are both on administrative leave following a standard investigation that goes into the death of a civilian at the hands of an officer.
