Microsoft made headlines recently with the announcement that it is discontinuing their Internet Explorer web browser. This doesn’t come as much surprise to anyone. Internet Explorer has seen a decline in use for years after Google’s web browser Chrome and Mozilla’s Firefox continually gained popularity.

However, Microsoft isn’t giving up on having their own web browser. With the upcoming and highly anticipated release of Windows 10, Microsoft will be releasing a new web browser in hopes of regaining some of its user base that left over the years to the better alternatives.

It is certainly a wise move to, at the very least, rebrand Internet Explorer. While Microsoft’s browser use to be the only browser worth using, over the years, it grew a reputation of being buggy, full of security issues and heavy on resources that it used. Rebranding is likely the only way Microsoft has a chance to recover and become a useful web browser again.

The new browser is still in the works and is reportedly called “Project Spartan.” It was also reported that Internet Explorer will still be an option on the new Windows 10 Operating System but as an alternative to the new browser. I can’t imagine what use that would be, but perhaps they have something in mind.

The new “Project Spartan” web browser is being developed in a brand new rendering engine known as “Edge”. It’s unclear what benefit this will bring and how it may outperform its far-superior competition in Google Chrome.

It will certainly be interesting to see how things develop for the new browser from Microsoft. Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox hold a definitive share of the web browsing market. Will Microsoft be able to release a new browser that can compete while losing its bad reputation?

Is anyone looking forward to this browser? Leave a comment below and let me know!
