It’s been a rough week for former NFL player, Michael Sam. After signing with the Montreal Alouettes back in May, Sam is finally on his way to making his professional debut as the first openly gay player in the Canadian Football League.

Unfortunately for Sam, with all of the attention he receives off the field, there are coaches and managers who are not pleased with him being in the spotlight with a league full of “more deserving players.” Here’s what some critics had to say anonymously, of course.

Michael Sam hasn’t played a down of football north of the border and he has gotten a thousand times more recognition than Randy Chevrier, who won the Tom Pate Award [for outstanding sportsmanship and someone who has made a significant contribution to his team, his community and CFLPA]. That’s pathetic. You guys [in the media] should be embarrassed,” one anonymous source said.

Said another anonymous source, “Our players are saying they’re hearing Michael Sam is an American prima donna. Thought he could just show up and dominate our league. Wrong.

The tough treading didn’t end there. After announcing his engagement to Vito Cammisano six months ago, Michael Sam, winner of the ESPY’s Arther Ashe Courage award for coming out as gay, ended the engagement with his long-time boyfriend.

No statement has been released regarding the split.

Stay tuned.
