Things have taken a crazy turn for NFL Defensive End Jason Pierre-Paul. Over the holiday weekend Pierre-Paul was involved in a fireworks incident that severely burned his palm and three fingers on his right hand.

Wednesday, Pierre-Paul had the index finger on his right hand amputated.

Here’s how it all went down and what it means for his professional career.

Reportedly, Jason Pierre-Paul rented a U-Haul van and filled the van with fireworks. It’s unknown which jurisdiction in South Florida he set the fireworks off or what type of firework caused the injury to his hand. However, authorities will be looking to gather all information pertaining to the incident, to determine if the fireworks were in fact, illegal. In South Florida, a firework that “becomes airborne or explodes is illegal to use.”

Professionally, Pierre-Paul could potentially lose a lot of money. During the off-season, the New York Giants offered him a franchise tender of $14.8 million, but Jason did not sign the tender as both sides were negotiating a longer deal with the Giants reportedly offering a multi-year $60 million contract. As of Saturday, that long-term deal has since been rescinded. The Giants now have the option to rescind the franchise tender as well.

So if you’re following, that’s right, Pierre-Paul’s got legal and professional problems on top of one less finger!

If only it stopped there.

After the accident, Pierre-Paul’s medical chart was leaked, meaning if he did not give consent for the release of his medical chart, he has the right to sue the hospital for illegally releasing the chart. The culprit could be looking at a $50,000 fine and the hospital can expect a lawsuit on behalf of Pierre-Paul.

JasonĀ is expected to make a full recovery and play in 2015, however, it’s unclear who he’ll be playing for and at what price.

Whew, and y’all thought your 4th of July was eventful!
