As if anyone thought Dwayne Wade were going anywhere, today he announced that he’ll be resigning with the Miami Heat for one-year, $20 million.

After deciding to opt-out of his contract last week, it was believed by multiple sources around the NBA that Wade would not be returning to the Heat. This, in large part, was due to the massive contracts awarded to Goran Dragic (5 years/$90 million) and Chris Bosh (5 year/$118 million – signed last year). Also, Wade was looking for a longer deal, in the ballpark of $45-50 million for 3 years.

It has been an honor and privilege to play with the Miami Heat the past 12 years,” Wade said in a statement first released to AP. “The Heat family and I have shared incredible moments over the years and I look forward to continuing our journey. I am extremely proud of my personal contributions in helping to build the Heat franchise and for bringing three NBA championship wins to our great city.”

“For my entire NBA career, Miami has always been my city and my home,” Wade said. “I’m overwhelmed with the love and support the Miami community have consistently shown me and my family throughout the years.

Although, the deal is only for one year, with the salary cap expected to rise next year, the deal is viewed as a win-win for both parties. The Heat will keep the face of their franchise and Dwayne Wade will be eligible to restructure a longer deal next year when more money is available across the league.

Expect the Heat to make some serious noise in the East next year.

P.S. Rumor has it, Miami has requested a meeting with Lamarcus Aldridge this week.
