Working for someone else, often means you’re never completely safe from being fired, especially when so many companies are being forced to let go of employees to reduce overhead costs. But how can you tell when you could be the employee on the chopping block? According to Forbes, it’s actually pretty easy, simply pay attention to your bosses and you’ll know if you’re about to be fired. Here’s a list of three signs you’re about to be let go:

Everything Changes & You’re Left Out of the Loop

One of the most obvious signs that you may be on your way out the door, is if there are consistent changes going on around the office and you’re not hearing anything about them. This typically only applies to employees who were either in positions of power, or who were given additional responsibilities above their coworkers.

If you start noticing that your boss is not relying on you less, or is being increasingly secretive about the direction of the company, there should be numerous red flags going off in your head. The first sign there’s trouble in paradise, is always when communication becomes strained or stops altogether.

Future? What’s That?

If you’re all of a sudden no longer being talked about for potential promotions or your boss doesn’t seem to be interested in discussing your future with the company, there’s a strong chance you don’t have one.

Promotion talks are some of the best tools for motivating employees to hit goals and improve work performance, so if you notice that you’re no longer being motivated in this way, you should definitely start worrying about your future, because chances are, your company isn’t.

Your Boss Starts Avoiding You

If you’re buddy-buddy with your boss, you should definitely take notice if they begin to avoid you at all costs. This is their way of essentially purging you from their work life so that once you’re let go, they’ll already be used to working without you on their team. If you’re no longer invited to lunch, or they’re not stopping by your office/cubicle to chat with you as regularly as before, prepare yourself for the bad news in advance.
